Denver Biscuit Company is a staple of Denver. If you have been to Denver and haven’t been to this establishment then either you live under a rock, don’t like biscuits, or you had a horrible tour guide. Whatever the reason, I urge you to make this a must have spot for your next trip there. Is it heavy? Absolutely! Is it also incredibly delicious? OH YES! When my friend mentioned this place, I almost instantly had a heart attack looking at the menu. I scoured the menu to try to find something semi-healthy, but my options were a bit limited and I figured I was on vacation so screw it, time to indulge! They have biscuit plates and biscuit sandwiches as well as a biscuit cinnamon roll that was the size of my face. Each of their dishes have fun names like The Winona, The Lola, and The Tomahawk to name a few. I debated between a few dishes, but ultimately selected The Lola. It comes with crispy buttermilk fried chicken, bacon, house made honey butter and then smothered in maple syrup smashed between two fluffy biscuits. As if this dish couldn’t get any better, you can also “french toast” the biscuits – I think this is a local secret because it was not listed on their menu anywhere. They basically take the biscuits, dunk them in an egg + cinnamon mixture and grill them to perfection. If you want to sound like a local, this is the move. Honestly, this is the move no matter what. My friend ordered the biscuits and gravy – you can choose between mushroom or sausage gravy. She went with sausage as she should. Although her dish was much less intimidating than mine, the flavor was equally matched. Fluffy biscuits smothered in warm, thick gravy. We left this place both stuffed and satisfied. Would suggest if you go here to plan a nap right after or a walk around Washington Park just a few miles away. Also, if you come here on the weekend, you are in for a bit of a wait. They do offer hot coffee and board games for those waiting – I recommend though leaving them your phone number, taking a stroll around the block and grabbing a latte from Metropolis Coffee up the block while you wait for them to text you. If you have read this far thank you – I will impart one more cool fact I learned. At night they turn in to a pizza place called Fat Sully’s. What a genius business model – biscuits in the morning, pizza at night. They are not the only denver restaurant to do this and I was surprised I had never heard of that before – so smart.
For a look at their menu and locations check here. We went to their location on South Broadway for reference of the other spots I mentioned!
