We recently had the privilege of traveling back to my hometown of OKC. Since I left almost 5 years ago, the city has completely transformed into a food lovers paradise. I was pleasantly surprised to see a number of my favorite restaurants still thriving, and the addition of some new culinary masterpieces.
One of my favorites? Waffle Champion. I mean, what is better than a crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside waffle for breakfast? Perhaps one topped with perfectly fried chicken or delicious Migas! That is exactly what we got! My husband opted for the chicken and waffles – a close second for me – and he could not stop raving about it. Seriously though, the chicken was fried to perfection; wonderfully juicy chicken hidden inside the crispy skin. The Migas was equally delicious. Fluffy eggs, house made chorizo with a tomatillo salsa and not too spicy crema! You also get the choice of the classic or beige waffle or if you’re feeling fun you can make it debris style – which is atop a fresh bed of waffle fries.
If you’re feeling more sweet than savory for your weekend brunch, they have a wide selection of sweet waffles – such as s’mores, cinnamon roll, and french toast. Safe to say, whatever you’re craving, they are sure to have something to hit the spot!
Check them out if you are in the area – I promise, you won’t be disappointed! If you go on the weekend though, arrive early or be prepared for a bit of a wait. You can order ahead and takeout – but let’s be real, waffles are best enjoyed fresh and hot off the griddle!
