This spot has been around since 2013, and when you walk in the pastry case and bread wall is just mesmerizing and incredible. It is the perfect mix of cozy neighborhood bakery and serious craftsmanship. This cafe opens at 7am, which was perfect for the jet lag because we woke up around 5am waiting patiently for a coffee spot to open up. We were definitely the first ones through that door in desperate search of caffeine and a bite to eat.
Of course we had to grab a pretzel, which is a staple in Germany and are just so good. Still warm, perfectly chewy, a lil salty, exactly what we needed. We also grabbed a unique pastry, the Mohn Cheesecake. Mohn is poppyseed in German and it is a super common ingredient used in baking. You’ll find poppyseed cakes, strudel, bars, etc. If you have never tried it, I encourage it, but it can be an acquired taste. The Mohn Cheesecake here was so delicious. The bottom was a buttery shortbread base, topped with the roasted poppyseeds, and a creamy cheesecake layer on top. It paired so well together, nutty and rich but not too heavy.
Highly recommend popping in here for breakfast or lunch if you’re in Berlin. It’s a wonderful, low-key spot that absolutely delivers.
