This Doner spot is a bit outside of the city but if you are in the area it is so worth it. There’s a fun little background on this spot that has a personal connection, and it’s the reason why we went all the way out here.
Like I mentioned, this spot is outside of the city, about 30ish minutes by train, and the area is pretty suburban with mostly houses. Down the street though, is the John F. Kennedy School, which is an international school where a lot of kids of military families attend. This was actually the school my husband went to when he was in middle school, how crazy is that. So how does Efe’s tie in? Well, since he went to school down the street, Efe’s was his go-to spot for Doner. Can you believe that this place has been around THAT long? For reference my husband is 45 haha. Efe’s has stood the test of time, and when you bite down for that first bite, you will understand why.
This was absolutely in my top 3 Doner spots we had during our trip, and I would gladly take a train ride out here at least once a month to get my hands on their Doner. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned and was so tender and juicy, not to mention they filled that bread. The bread was also perfect, light and fluffy, but the exterior had a great crunch. I also loved that the bread was on the thicker side, so it held up with all the fillings and sauce and didn’t get soggy or fall apart. The crunchy, fresh veggies were also wonderful, and they layered the meat and veggies perfectly so you got a little bit of everything in each bite. And lastly, their garlic sauce was so creamy and garlicky, I could have drank it with a spoon.
While this spot is a little bit further from the center of Berlin, if you are nearby it is absolutely worth checking out. Unfortunately there isn’t much else around the area to explore, but if you have the time, head to Efe’s.
