Salhino

This spot is located in Charlottenburg, so it is on the west side of Berlin just past Tiergarten. This spot has also been open for a decade and has a long history of authentic, family cooking that will bring you in the door and keep you coming back.

We were over in the area around lunch and knew this was absolutely a spot we had to try. Before this, we had only had Georgian food a few times from a restaurant we loved in Seattle, so we were very excited to try Salhino. The menu was divine and there were so many delicious dishes we wanted to try.

We ended up grabbing two classic dishes, Khachapuri and Khinkali. For the Khachapuri we ordered the Atscharuli version, which comes with the classic bread boat, stuffed with various cheese, and topped with an egg and butter. The egg comes out still runny, so you immediately whisk the egg with the cheese and butter to combine it.

It is so so good. The bread was soft and fluffy but still had a bite on the exterior. But that cheese, so creamy and vibrant and tangy. It makes you want to eat more and more. It is one of those dishes that you just can’t get enough of.

The khinkali are dumplings. We grabbed the pork and beef filled ones and they are so good. They are thick and big and so juicy, just be careful when you bite into them because they have some soup and juices that will burn you. Unlike Chinese dumplings, these dumpling wrappers are thicker and a bit heartier but not in a doughy way, they pair so well with the fillings too.

If you have never had Georgian food, I urge you to try it. If you are in Berlin, this should absolutely be on your list, you won’t be disappointed. I am already planning my next visit and will be ordering the entire menu.
