The Preacher’s Son

Who knew you would find such an upscale, innovative restaurant in downtown Bentonville, Arkansas. Certainly not me – but Bentonville is a quiet little foodie town that is waiting to be discovered. The Preacher’s Son is in an old, converted church and the architecture is breathtaking. The way they have transformed the space into a restaurant is nothing short of genius. The space is open and flows, with so much light coming in from the windows. You have to check it out yourself!

The menu is also incredible. Again, I did not expect to find such a culinary experience in this part of the world – let’s be real, Arkansas doesn’t exactly scream foodie town! Their menu is selective, but it allows them to be perfect each time. The offerings range from fish to tofu, so there is a dish for everyone on the menu. We started off with two appetizers – Croquettes ($12) and Burrata ($16). The croquettes were warm and bursting with cheese and potato goodness. Fried to perfection with a light, crispy crust formed on the outside. 10/10 would recommend these! The burrata was not exactly what I pictured. It was a piece of grilled bread topped with burrata, dates, almonds and celery. The burrata was creamy and rich, but I didn’t love how it was assembled. The flavors paired nicely and you had a sweetness from the dates with a crunch from the celery, but the overall dish just didn’t do it for me. For the mains we tried the Rigatoni ($26), Duck Breast ($32) and the Whole Branzino ($47). The rigatoni was my favorite with pork bolognese and a generous helping of fresh parmesan on top. The duck though was a surprise delight with a sweet and sour glaze that intrigued and delighted my tastebuds. The branzino was also cooked nicely with a salsa verde to add a freshness and brightness to the fish.

If you’re going to grab dessert, which I highly suggest you do. Even if you are stuffed, we all know there is a separate stomach specifically designed for dessert! Grab the Passion Fruit Pie – a twist on the classic key lime pie! It has a buttery, salty graham cracker crust with a slightly tart passion fruit filling. This was the table favorite, even though we for sure thought it would be the least favorite.
