I’m always on the hunt for a delicious local breakfast spot when I travel, and on a recent morning in Denver, I think I hit the jackpot. I stumbled upon a place called Call Your Mother, and when I saw the photos of their bagels, I immediately said, “Say less.” This wonderful cafe serves up delicious bagels, coffee, and a few Jewish staples. What’s really cool is that it originally started as a farmers market stand in DC, and they’ve since expanded to brick-and-mortar locations, including this one in Denver! The menu is packed with a ton of bagels, schmears, and signature sandwiches. You can also create your own if you’re feeling fun. I was torn between two, so naturally, I had to get both.
Up first was the Za’atar Bagel with Garlic Herb Cream Cheese. The ratio was absolutely perfect—I love a generous amount of cream cheese on my bagel, and this was spot on. The cream cheese itself was so creamy and flavorful, with a great freshness from the herbs. The bagel was perfection: chewy and fluffy on the inside but with that nice exterior to bite into.
The second bagel was a sandwich called the Pastrami Sun City, and wow. This masterpiece comes with house-made pastrami, a bodega-style egg, American and cheddar cheese, and a drizzle of hot honey, all on an everything bagel. It is the perfect combination of salty, sweet, and a little spicy. The pastrami was so rich and tender, pairing beautifully with the slightly runny egg and all that melty cheese. It is truly everything you could ever need in a breakfast sandwich. I could have eaten a dozen of these!
To drink, I grabbed a Black & White Iced Latte, which is a nod to the popular Black & White Cookie. It was good, but definitely on the sweeter side for me, so next time I would just opt for less syrup.
Overall, this spot absolutely needs to be on your Denver list. The bagels are perfection and just might be my new favorite in the city.
