There is truly nothing better than a warm, comforting bowl of ramen, especially on a chilly evening. And if you’re in Vancouver, you can get a taste of some of the most authentic and delicious ramen you’ll find outside of Japan at Horin Ramen.
This isn’t just any ramen shop; it’s a celebrated name from Japan that has been perfecting the art of ramen for 59 years. Their secret is in the broth, which is cooked for hours and hours to create a super flavorful yet incredibly smooth base for their dishes. All of their ramen bowls are carefully crafted and simple, which really allows you to fully experience the quality and depth of the ramen itself.
I stopped in on a cool evening, and it was the perfect remedy. I ordered the Ajitama ramen, which comes with their signature hand-pulled noodles, tender pork, a perfectly soft-boiled egg, fresh green onions, and a dollop of their house-made chili paste.
One of the things I love about Horin is that you can customize your bowl to your exact preference. You can choose the firmness of your noodles and, most importantly, the amount of chili paste you want, depending on your spice tolerance. I opted for a smaller amount of the chili paste, just to get a little bit of a kick without overwhelming the beautiful broth.
The result was a truly exceptional bowl of ramen. The noodles were perfectly chewy and light, the pork was cooked so well that it was unbelievably tender, and the rich, jammy egg was incredible. All together, it was such a wonderful and satisfying meal.
If you are a ramen lover, you absolutely have to visit Horin Ramen. It’s an authentic taste of Japan, and it’s probably the best, most comforting bowl of ramen you will find outside of the country.
