La Foret

Walking into La Foret in Vancouver feels like stepping into a beautiful, green oasis. It’s a gorgeous, large, and open space filled with so much seating and lush greenery, making it a perfect spot to settle in for a while. This full-service cafe and restaurant boasts a counter filled with delectable-looking pastries, which, along with their coffee and full breakfast menu, drew my husband and me in a number of times during our trip.

Since we visited a few times, we got to try a few different things. Let’s start with the pastries and coffee. I have to be honest: while their croissants looked absolutely stunning—perfectly shaped and glistening—the flavors just didn’t quite hit for me. They also weren’t as flaky and buttery as I had hoped. Their coffee, however, was another story. It was consistently smooth and luscious, a perfect cup every time.

But the real, undeniable star of the show at La Foret is their breakfast platters. They were unreal! On one of our visits, I ordered the Bulgogi Platter. It was so incredibly tasty, with tender, flavorful bulgogi beef, perfectly runny eggs, crispy potatoes, and a light, tangy salad to cut through the richness. My husband ordered the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) Platter, and I am not exaggerating when I say it was some of the crispiest, most flavorful fried chicken I have ever had.

These platters also come with a warning: they are huge! There was so much food on each plate that honestly, you could probably share one platter between two people, especially if you’re also grabbing a coffee and a pastry.

So, while the pastries might be more for the eyes than the palate, I would still highly recommend a visit to La Foret. Go for the beautiful atmosphere, stay for the excellent coffee, and absolutely do not leave without trying one of their amazing breakfast platters.
