Hot pot is one of those meals that just feels like a warm hug in a bowl. It’s so delicious, comforting, and communal. I’ll never forget the first time I had it, way back in 2012 in China. I remember being so lost and confused by the whole process, but I fell in love with it. So, I absolutely love seeing hot pot become a staple across the world. And while The Dolar Shop in Vancouver isn’t a local spot, it’s a fantastic and comforting place to enjoy this beloved Chinese style of dining.
The Dolar Shop is a well-known brand that started in Macau and now has locations around the world. And let me tell you, it’s probably the bougiest of the hot pot shops I’ve been to. Every detail is carefully crafted to create an incredible and elevated experience. They serve premium cuts of meat, the freshest seafood, and beautiful vegetables.
One of the things I love most about The Dolar Shop is that they serve hot pot in an individual style. Instead of everyone sharing one large pot of broth, you get your very own! I find this to be a much cleaner and more personalized experience. While I don’t mind sharing with my husband, I’m not a huge fan of sharing hot pot with a large group, so this setup is perfect for me.
Another huge highlight is their sauce bar. This is where you can let your creativity run wild and create the perfect dipping sauce for your meal. They have so much to choose from—rich sesame paste, soy sauce, minced garlic, various vinegars, fragrant chili oil, fresh cilantro, and so much more!
Now, this shop is definitely on the pricier side for hot pot. But you are paying for the highest quality products, that incredible unlimited sauce bar, and a little bonus—free ice cream at the end of your meal! The flavors of the broths and ingredients are also so intense in the best way possible. So, do I think the price is worth it? Yes. But I’d say it’s more for a special occasion or a “treat yourself” kind of day, and not your everyday hot pot spot. It’s a fantastic experience that feels both luxurious and incredibly comforting.
