When you find a great neighborhood spot on a trip, it can completely elevate your daily routine. For us, that spot in Rome was Il Cigno, an upscale neighborhood coffee shop, bakery, gelateria, and more, all rolled into one beautiful cafe.
This place was clearly popular with the people who lived in the area, and it was just a few blocks away from our hotel, making it a dangerously convenient stop. We found ourselves popping in for cappuccinos and pastries a few times during our trip. It’s the kind of place that offers pretty much anything you could want, from a quick espresso to a scoop of gelato or an elegant pastry.
While it is on the pricier side for a neighborhood cafe, it was still cheaper than a lot of the tourist-focused spots you’ll find in the city center, and the quality was definitely there. Their cappuccinos were fantastic—so smooth and creamy, made with rich, bold espresso and perfectly steamed and foamed milk. It was a luxurious way to start the day.
Of course, we had to pair our coffee with a classic Roman breakfast pastry: the Maritozzo. If you’ve never had one, you’re in for a treat. Maritozzi are wonderfully soft, buttery brioche buns that are split open and generously filled with fresh whipped cream. They are so simple, yet so incredibly delicious.
If you’re looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy a high-quality coffee and a classic Roman pastry, and you want to feel that upscale neighborhood vibe, Il Cigno is a perfect choice. It’s a little taste of everyday elegance.
