When you’re exploring the area around the iconic Trevi Fountain, the sheer number of people and shops can be overwhelming. Finding a spot for a quick bite can feel like a challenge. On one of our afternoons, we found ourselves in this exact situation and stumbled upon Bottega Trevi, a charming Italian deli just around the corner from the fountain.
First things first, let’s talk about the location. Being this close to a major landmark means you’re in a prime tourist area. Is this spot on the pricier side? Yes, but you have to remember you’re also paying for the incredible convenience of its location. Even with the touristy vibe, the food and quality are still very good, and we saw a mix of locals and tourists inside, so it’s a bit of a toss-up for authenticity. The deli counter is filled with tempting options—ready-made sandwiches, beautiful slices of pizza, an assortment of pastries and cookies, and more. We popped in for a late lunch after a long morning of exploring the city and decided to grab a couple of their sandwiches.
The process is simple: you pick your sandwich, they weigh it to determine the price, and then they heat it up for you on the spot, which is great because it crisps the bread up perfectly. The flavors of our sandwiches were genuinely really good. You could taste the quality of the ingredients. However, here’s my honest take: for what we paid, it was really expensive for what we got. The sandwiches didn’t have as much filling as I would have liked, which was a little disappointing given the price. But again, you have to factor in where you are. Part of that cost is for the real estate.
So, is Bottega Trevi a must-visit? If you’re on a strict budget, probably not. But if you’re near the Trevi Fountain, you’re hungry, and you want a quick, tasty, and convenient bite from a charming spot, it’s a solid option. Just go in knowing that the flavor is there, but the price reflects the prime location more than the portion size.
