La Cecchina

There’s something truly special about dining at a place that comes highly recommended by a local. It feels like you’ve been let in on a secret, a chance to experience a city’s authentic heart. That’s exactly the feeling we had when we booked a table at La Cecchina in Bari, Italy. This popular spot, beloved by locals and a few in-the-know tourists, offers an enchanting setting for an evening dinner, especially during the warm months. Their patio overlooks a lively city square, providing the perfect vantage point to watch the world go by. We were mesmerized as we saw people enjoying their evenings together, with some even joyfully dancing in the streets. The restaurant itself is the perfect blend of charming and rustic, while still bringing an air of elegance to the experience.

La Cecchina is celebrated for its traditional Apulian dishes, all elevated with creative Mediterranean twists and made with the highest quality ingredients. One of the things this restaurant does exceptionally well is Orecchiette, the ear-shaped pasta that is a signature of the region. Naturally, we both had to order a pasta dish. I opted for a simple Orecchiette with olives, tomatoes, and a generous dollop of creamy burrata. My husband was a bit more adventurous and chose the Orecchiette with a horse ragu. Both dishes were absolutely stunning. The flavors were deep and complex, the textures were perfect, and you could taste the freshness in every single bite. Alongside our mains, we enjoyed a bottle of local wine, fresh bread served with three different types of olive oil for tasting, and a side of delicious marinated tomatoes. It was a magnificent meal from start to finish.

While La Cecchina is a bit pricier than some other spots in Bari, I can honestly say it is well worth it for a special dinner. The combination of the vibrant atmosphere, the impeccable food, and the charming setting makes for an unforgettable Italian dining experience.
