Frezza

When in Rome, finding a spot that perfectly balances a charming atmosphere with classic Roman fare is a real treat. We found just that at Frezza, a lovely restaurant that prides itself on using high-quality ingredients and making everything from scratch in-house. With a menu that spans from pizzas and pastas to beautiful meat and cheese boards, there’s something for everyone. It also boasts a stunning aperitivo menu and a great outdoor seating section, perfect for enjoying the Italian sun.

We stopped in for a very early dinner. Now, we know that Italians typically eat much later, around 8 or 9 p.m., but after a long day of travel, we were absolutely exhausted and starving. As we were settling in for our meal, most of the other patrons were just enjoying their happy hour snacks and cocktails, which created a really fun, lively atmosphere on the patio. Given our early-bird status, we decided to just try a Roman-style pizza and a few appetizers. We ordered an assortment to share, trying the Cacio e Pepe Suppli, the Classico Suppli, and a fried Zucchini Flower. To be completely honest, the appetizers were a bit too greasy for my personal taste and not as flavorful as I had hoped. Of the three, the Cacio e Pepe Suppli was definitely the favorite, with its creamy, peppery center.

The pizza we ordered was a traditional Roman style, which means it has a very thin crust. It’s probably not my favorite style of pizza in the world, as I tend to prefer a chewier, Neapolitan-style dough. However, that being said, Frezza’s version had a lot of flavor, which was a definite plus! The quality of the ingredients really shone through.

Overall, Frezza is a wonderful spot with a fantastic ambiance, especially if you’re looking for a place to enjoy a classic Italian aperitivo. While not every dish was a perfect hit for my palate, it was still a great experience in a beautiful setting. I also feel that I ordered wrong, their curated meat & cheese plates and their pasta dishes looked divine, so next time I would try that!
