Playa del Sol

f you want to experience a truly authentic Italian meal, you have to go where the locals go. About 30 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Bari, nestled on the coast in the town of Molfetta, you’ll find an incredible seafood restaurant called Playa del Sol. This place is a real hidden gem. First things first, it’s a seasonal spot, so you’ll only find it open during the warm summer months. It’s also as local as it gets—they only speak Italian and don’t have an English menu. This is your cue to have Google Translate ready on your phone! It’s a small step that opens the door to a truly authentic and charming experience.

We were lucky enough to be treated to a fabulous dinner here by one of our local friends, and it was an evening I’ll never forget. The restaurant is right on the water, so you get these exceptional views as the sun goes down.

We started our meal with a feast from the sea. An incredible cured fish plate arrived with delicate slices of salmon, yellowtail, and tuna. We also indulged in perfectly cooked calamari, sweet shrimp, and briny mussels. Everything was so unbelievably fresh. For our main courses, I ordered the Lobster Pasta. It was heavenly. The dish was packed with so much tender lobster, all tossed in a rich tomato sauce with thick, handmade noodles that were the perfect vehicle for it all. My husband ordered the cavatelli with zucchini and mussels, another beautiful dish that was both simple and full of flavor.

Everything about our dinner at Playa del Sol felt so genuine and special. From the fresh, expertly prepared food to the charming, Italian-only atmosphere and the stunning seaside setting, it was a perfect dining experience. If you’re in the Bari area and want to taste the real flavor of the Adriatic coast, a trip to Playa del Sol is an absolute must.
