Magda

If you want to start your day like a true local in Bari, Italy, you need to head straight to Magda. This isn’t just a bakery; it’s a long-standing institution where the community flocks for their daily bread, morning cappuccino, and a delicious snack to kickstart their day.

When you step inside, you’ll find a beautiful array of baked goods, from sweet pastries to a fantastic variety of focaccia—Barese, potato, classic, onion, and more. Now, I’ll be honest, the experience can be a little overwhelming if you don’t speak Italian. It’s a bustling, busy spot, and you kind of have to assertively make your way in to get what you want. It’s all part of the authentic charm!

Here’s how it works: first, you go to the counter and order what you want. While the staff is grabbing your items, you head over to a separate cashier to pay. Once you’ve paid, you go back to the counter with your receipt to pick up your order. It’s a system that works like a well-oiled machine for the regulars.

I popped in for a morning cappuccino and, of course, I had to get a slice of their Focaccia Barese. It was the absolute perfect start to my morning. The focaccia was top-tier—chewy, flavorful, and incredibly fresh.

And here’s the best part: you get this amazing, high-quality focaccia without the crazy long wait you might find at other famous spots in the city. If you want a delicious, authentic taste of Bari without spending an hour in line, Magda is your spot. It’s quick, it’s delicious, and it’s as real as it gets.
