Rome Eats

Rome is probably the most popular Italian destination for travelers. And it makes sense because it has so much history. There is so much to do, see and of course eat in Rome and I highly recommend going with a plan. Most of the iconic spots require reservations/tickets and they can sell out quickly, especially in peak travel months from around April – September. A few of my favorite things to see that I felt were worth it are: Colosseum and Roman Forum (you can get a pass for both just leave plenty of time for the Forum because it is large); Trevi Fountain (but go early or late and don’t bother paying and standing in line to go to the bottom); Spanish Steps; Pantheon; Castel Sant’Angelo (this was a last minute for us and we grabbed tickets when we got there but it has stunning views of the city); Trastevere Neighborhood (this is the cutest area to walk around on the cobblestone streets). If you’re wanting to go to the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel make sure you book well in advance – we missed out on this because we weren’t able to get tickets even a month out. I also highly recommend the Hop On Hop Off busses, yes it is touristy, but Rome will put some miles on your shoes and everything is spread out; plus their metro system isn’t the best. The Hop On Hop Off is a great way to get around to the different areas if you aren’t wanting to take public transportation and don’t want to pay for a taxi/uber since that can add up! We ended up using the public transportation a decent amount but I recognize this is not everyone’s first choice. Aside from all the sites, Rome is known for food and there are some very specific things you have to try while there. The most famous is probably the 4 Pastas – Carbonara, Cacio E Pepe, Amatriciana, and Gricia; then you’ve got great “street food” like Suppli, Pizza by the Weight, Trapizzino; for hearty options you must try Saltimbocca, Braised Artichokes, and Oxtail Stew; for sweet treats Gelato, Tiramisu, and Maritozzo are classics. Below you will find everywhere we dined on our 3 day trip in Rome. My favorite spots that should not be missed are: Luciano (get the cacio e pepe); Antica Pesa (make sure to grab a reservation); Suppli (try the braised pork Suppli); Two Sizes (a perfect afternoon tiramisu pick me up).
