Tucked away in the trendy Malasana neighborhood, La Taperia de Malasana is a hidden gem of a tapas bar that’s perfect for a casual meal or snack. Located near the bustling Mercado de San Ildefonso, this spot is great for grabbing a bite to eat while exploring the area. One of the best things about La Taperia is its no-fuss approach to dining. The atmosphere is lively and relaxed, with a focus on delicious food and good company. However, be warned: the portion sizes are generous, to say the least. We made the mistake of ordering four plates, thinking they would be small and shareable, only to find ourselves overwhelmed by huge portions of food.
If you’re planning to dine at La Taperia, it’s worth asking about half portions or being mindful of the size of the dishes. That being said, the food is well worth indulging in. We tried a few different dishes, including the Pan Con Tomate, Broken Eggs over Fries with Jamon Iberico, Shrimp, and Jamon and Queso Croquettes. The Broken Eggs dish was a standout for us – we had never tried it before, but it quickly became a new favorite. The combination of runny eggs, crispy fries, and salty Jamon Iberico was absolute perfection. The Shrimp were also delicious, although be warned that they come unpeeled and with the head still on.
To wash it all down, be sure to grab a glass of wine, sangria, or beer. The drinks menu is affordable and extensive, and the staff are happy to help you choose the perfect pairing for your meal.
Overall, La Taperia de Malasana is a great spot for cheap and tasty eats, as long as you’re mindful of the portion sizes. With its lively atmosphere and delicious food, it’s a great place to grab a bite with friends or meet up for a casual meal.
