Cafe 21 Fenwick

Afternoon tea is a quintessential English tradition that simply must be tried. And what better place to experience it than Cafe 21 Fenwick in Newcastle Upon Tyne? This charming spot offers a delightful afternoon tea experience that’s sure to transport you to a bygone era. Before you head out, be sure to book ahead of time, as this popular spot can get busy quickly. And, if you’re feeling fancy, I highly recommend adding a glass of champagne to your experience. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the delicate finger sandwiches, sweet pastries, and of course, the scones.

The menu at Cafe 21 Fenwick’s afternoon tea is a veritable feast for the eyes and taste buds. You’ll be treated to a variety of finger sandwiches, a raisin scone and a plain scone served with clotted cream and jam, and an assortment of pastries, including cakes, macarons, and more. It’s a lot of food, to be sure – so much so that I’d advise skipping lunch if you plan on indulging in this treat. While the experience was certainly fun, I have to admit that the food didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The flavors seemed to fall flat, and some of the cakes were on the dry side. However, the scones were a highlight – they were delicious, especially when paired with the rich clotted cream and sweet jam.

Despite the somewhat lackluster food, the atmosphere and service at Cafe 21 Fenwick were top-notch. It’s clear that the staff are passionate about providing a lovely experience, and the setting is perfect for a relaxing afternoon out. If you’re a fan of afternoon tea, Cafe 21 Fenwick is still worth a visit – just be sure to have realistic expectations. And if you’re looking to try a traditional English experience, this spot is a great choice.
