The Larder

This restaurant is technically located inside of a hotel. And I know what you are thinking…ew, who would eat at a hotel restaurant; isn’t that overpriced for sub-par food? And I would typically agree with you if I were staying in the US (unless I was staying you know at like a 5 star hotel); but in Europe, the restaurants in the hotel are actually (usually) incredible. Some of the hotels we have stayed in have even had Michelin Guide restaurants in them. So yes, in this case a hotel restaurant is actually an option. Located in the Double Tree in Coventry is The Larder. A classic British restaurant with fish and chips, meat pies, scotch eggs, and more classic dishes.

I have had the pleasure of eating dinner here multiple times and it was actually so good! I always start with the Scotch Eggs. These are semi-hard boiled eggs that are covered in sausage and then rolled in breadcrumbs and fried to a golden brown. They are served with a tangy, yet creamy mustard sauce; almost like a remoulade. I always enjoy these and I love that they are kinda like a breakfast item but not and so savory. My favorite main dishes are the Steak and Ale Pie over Mash and the Fish & Chips. They are both so different, so it really depends on my mood. The Steak & Ale pie is so hearty and warm. A buttery, flakey crust is stuffed with root vegetables and tender, juicy steak and is served with creamy, silky mashed potatoes and a rich gravy to pour on top! The Fish & Chips on the other hand are a bit lighter with a lovely, light, crispy breading and tender, flakey fish that has a mild flavor. Make sure to add a squeeze of lemon for brightness and dunk it into the creamy, tangy tartar sauce! I am usually super stuffed after the appetizer and main, but I will still always order the Sticky Toffee Pudding. So moist and soft with a sticky caramel sauce and cold vanilla ice cream!
