Okay, so this restaurant is actually located inside of an Inn in Coventry. This spot has a huge outdoor patio, so it is perfect for those months where the weather is beautiful and there is no rain in sight. Upon walking in, you can definitely tell it is a spot where the locals come and drink a pint or two with their friends and family. It has such a relaxed vibe and atmosphere and everyone was super friendly and super chill. It is a very cozy and comfortable space and honestly if I lived near here, I would probably be here regularly for drinks!
They not only have a full menu, but they offer brunch and a special Sunday menu as well. Sundays in England are known for one thing – a Sunday Roast. If you are in England on a Sunday then you have to get a Sunday roast, there is nothing better. Their Sunday menu is also a super good deal with 5 roasts to choose from or you can do the trio to try a few! With their Sunday menu, you can also get certain appetizers and desserts for only 2.50 pound each! We went with the roast pork belly and ordered an extra Yorkshire pudding so we wouldn’t have to share! The pork was so tender it fell off the bone and had such a deep, rich flavor. The crispy potatoes and parsnips were a wonderful addition and dunked in the gravy it made it even more tasty. To start we tried the crispy beer battered mushrooms served with a garlic mayonnaise. These tasted way better than I expected them to, and the garlic mayo gave them a creamy, tanginess that they needed. And of course we couldn’t skip dessert! We grabbed the crumble with warm custard and it blew us away! I loved the tartness of the berries with the buttery, crunchy crumble on top. But that custard was so creamy and silky and I would put it on every dessert.
Overall the Red Lion was a fun experience for us tourists to try a Sunday Roast. I am not going to claim this was one of the best restaurants I have eaten at, but it was a comforting, home style meal. If you’re in the area, stop in for a pint or two!
