Scratch Kitchen

My husband and I were exploring Newport in the morning and needed some breakfast. There was a different cafe I really wanted to go to, but they had a wait time of over an hour and I just wasn’t having it lol. I was hangry at this point, so we had to move fast. A few doors down was Scratch Kitchen, and I won’t lie..I wasn’t super excited to eat here because I had my heart set on something else. Scratch Kitchen was also kinda empty and seemed really dated and maybe like it hadn’t been deep cleaned in a while. Their menu was also overwhelming and had so many things on it, which made it difficult to decide what to get. My husband is a little more ~go with the flow~ than I am, so he encouraged me that it would be okay! We ordered off of the breakfast menu and grabbed the Original Breakfast Burrito, Grilled Cheese Frittata, and a side of Spud Nuggets. It wasn’t the most magical breakfast I have ever eaten, but it was pretty darn delicious. I could see it being a very popular place when you are hungover since the food is greasy and will fill you up with lots of carbs. I also did appreciate that they sandwiched a frittata between a grilled cheese – it was so buttery and rich, but definitely on the heavy side. The dish that was the most magical though were the spud nuggets. Little fried cubes of potatoes that had such a crispy exterior and a smooth, buttery inside that was piping hot. Perfectly salted with every bite. If you need a spot in Newport to grab breakfast, don’t write off the Scratch Kitchen entirely, you might find something ya love!
