Picture this. It is the end of summer, but the breeze says fall is coming. The sun is shining and the clouds fluffy in the baby blue sky. You are walking around the buzzing Newport, Rhode Island and it is just a little after 1pm so you find a waterfront restaurant and grab a table overlooking the bay. You look out and see the stunning Newport bridge, clear blue water, and sailboats moving by. This brings us to The Lobster Bar, which has been in Newport since 2012! I first came here with my mom in the spring of 2012 and it became a staple for us when she came to visit me in Rhode Island.
While Newport is a bit of a drive and you’ll spend a few dollars crossing the bridge, it is so worth visiting. And the main downtown area is super walkable, so you can park and just walk the town and waterfront before grabbing a bite here. During the summer months (May-September), Newport is absolutely buzzing with locals and tourists for the beach season! Now this spot is known mostly for their lobster, like the name suggests and you’ll find lobster rolls both ways, whole lobsters, lobster bisque, a lobster burger, and even a lobster pizza! If lobsters aren’t your thing though, they also have other seafood options. On my recent visit to Rhode Island, I popped in for lunch and grabbed a Traditional Lobster Roll, Lobster Bisque, and Seafood Cakes. I love their lobster rolls and I went with the traditional cold version mixed with mayonnaise, celery and dill served on a buttery roll. The lobster is fresh and tender and well seasoned. But my favorite dish I had was the Seafood Cakes – I was actually shocked with how good they were. They were golden brown on the outside with a nice crunchy and so butter and soft on the inside and that remoulade they came with was just fantastic!
Stop by and grab a delicious seafood meal overlooking the beautiful bay, but make a reservation if you are going during the summer months – especially during peak dining hours!
