Del’s

Nothing screams “summer is here” more than Del’s! It is a Rhode Island staple and favorite, but they are only open during those summer months. You’ll find locations across the state and it seems like more pop up during those summer months since Rhode Islanders can’t get enough. So what is Del’s? It is frozen lemonade! Not italian ice, not shaved ice, not a snow cone; but frozen lemonade! And with multiple flavors! Plus all of their lemonades are made with fresh fruit! Fun fact: years ago, the earliest Del’s was actually made in the 1840s in Naples, Italy. This same man then brought his recipe over to America at the turn of the century; his son then continued this journey and officially opened in 1948 under the Del’s name in Cranston, Rhode Island. Fast forward today and this frozen lemonade is still going strong and family run. The original recipe and flavor is lemon – but today you’ll find blueberry, watermelon, grapefruit, blood orange, and even hot chocolate! In total there are currently 14 flavors, but my favorite is the original lemon! Before you enjoy Del’s though, there are some rules. NEVER use a straw, it is meant to be shipped right from the cup. Shake the cup a little bit, and as the heat from your hands warms the cup, it will slowly melt the ice so you can continue sipping away. If you can’t make it to Rhode Island, you can actually order some of their mix to make at home (but note, not all flavors are available). Check them out here and order right to your home if you aren’t a local!
