Let’s get one thing out of the way first…the colored things on the donut are called SPRINKLES; not jimmies, sprinkles. Anyone who says otherwise is incorrect and I stand by that. The first time I walked in to Allie’s Donuts and it said “Jimmie’s” I looked at my friends and was like wtf is that. Allie’s has been serving donuts since 1968 and they have definitely gained popularity over the last few years! I experienced my first donut from here back in 2011 and many more after that for the next 4 years while in college. Every time I am back in Rhode Island, I make a stop here and grab a few of my favorites to enjoy. Their donuts just have something about them that makes them extra delicious – perhaps it is the fluffy, light dough; or the thick frosting; or maybe even the Jimmies on top. They even have giant donut cakes you can order and I was lucky enough to have amazing friends in college that surprised me with one for my birthday a few times. Allie’s Donuts to this day is a local, family owned and run shop and they make everything from scratch daily. All of their donuts are cut, fried, iced, and topped by hand and once they run out – they are out until the next day. I remember Saturday mornings driving a little over the speed limit to get there early enough before they ran out! They also have two distinct types of donuts – the more typical, fluffy raised yeast style; and a cake style donut that somehow has a super moist interior with this crispy exterior. My favorites are: Assorted Sprinkles (raised donut with white frosting and the most vibrant colored sprinkles), White Chocolate (Chocolate cake donut with white frosting), Chocolate Sprinkle (raised donut with chocolate frosting and chocolate sprinkles), and Strawberry Froster (raised donut with strawberry frosting). But honestly you can’t go wrong with any of them but I highly recommend trying a raised and a cake so you can taste the difference. I normally am not a fan of cake donuts because they are usually dry, but Allie’s manages to make them incredible!
