Located on the Boston waterfront since 1984, this restaurant is serving up fresh seafood with a view. And if you’re lucky you can snag one of their 4 tables on their patio that overlooks the bay. It is first come, first serve for tables so if you’re hoping to get one of the few tables outside, make sure to get there early! If you can’t though, their dining room has floor to ceiling windows so you can still have beautiful views. The Boston Sail Loft is known for their fresh seafood dishes like Lobster Rolls, Clam Chowder, Fish & Chips, and all the New England classics. I started my lunch with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. There are 3 main styles of clam chowder, for those that are not super familiar – New England (white), Rhode Island (clear) and Manhattan (red). All 3 styles have clams, each is very different in taste. My personal favorite is New England – this is also probably the most iconic. It is a rich, creamy white clam chowder with clams, potatoes, onions and heavy cream. Boston Sail Loft has a wonderful New England Clam chowder that is so rich and creamy and had a wonderful flavor profile with the seasonings. I also loved how it had so many clams in it, a lot of chowder will be 80% potatoes and that was not the case here. For my main dish, I had to go with the Lobster Roll because if I am in New England and not eating at least one lobster roll a day, then I am not doing it right. You can choose if you want a hot butter lobster roll (Connecticut style) or a cold mayonnaise with celery (Maine style). Both are served on a buttered, brioche roll with fries and coleslaw. I opted for the Maine style – so the cold, mayonnaise based roll. I was surprised with just how much lump lobster meat was in there – I am talking huge chunks of claws! It was so good and buttery and delicious. Claw meat is also a little sweeter and more delicate than tail meat, so this is what you want if you are eating it on its own. For the first lobster roll on my trip to Boston, this was up there and set the bar high! If you’re in Boston and looking for a wonderful seafood spot, check out the menu and grab a meal here.
