Dumpling Home

Dumpling Home is a gourmet dumpling and noodle restaurant that earned a spot on the coveted Michelin Guide list. They are most well-known for their soup dumplings that are incredibly delicate and delicious. But don’t stop there, the noodles and pan-fried dumplings also deserve a place at the table. With seating limited and lines out the door, you will be in for a bit of a wait here, but if you can wait you should because you will be rewarded with some of the best dumplings outside of China! They also don’t shy away from innovation and offer such a wide variety of soup dumplings that you won’t find in most places. Yes you will find classic Pork on the menu but you will also find Shrimp & Squash, Crab, and a Numb & Spicy Pork that I have never seen on any menu.

My husband and I knew this was a spot to try so we went in hopes of finding a short line. Unfortunately we were greeted with a 30-45 minute wait, which we were prepared for. We ended up waiting closer to an hour, but once we took that first bite we forgot about the wait. Even though there were only two of us, we ordered as if a whole group was going to join. We went with the Juicy Pork Bao ($15.95), Ginger and Green Onion Noodles ($14.95), Numb & Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao ($11.95), Pork Xiao Long Bao ($10.95), and the Crab & Pork Xiao Long Bao ($15.95). We were seriously blown away by it all. The Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) were all so delicious with a delicate wrapper and warm, luscious, rich broth. The Numb & Spicy Pork were honestly so good – they had just the right amount of heat without overpowering the broth or pork and left that tingling feeling on your tongue for a few seconds. I also really loved the Fried Juicy Bao – these were like a soup dumpling in the sense that they were filled with a delicious broth, but these have a thicker wrapper to ensure the do not break and are pan fried for a lovely, crispy bottom. These were probably my favorite because I love the contrast of the textures – the super crispy bottom with the silky, smooth top! The noodles were also incredible – chewy and bouncy with a rich, salty, slightly sweet sauce. I wish I lived closer to eat here every day, and I would go back to San Francisco just for this restaurant tbh. If you are nearby or on a trip, this is a spot you HAVE to go to and you can check out their menu here.
