Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles have been around since 1975! That is a long time to be slinging chicken and waffles. This spot has been a staple in the LA area for years and has even been a dining spot for celebrities over the years. While they are most well known for the chicken and waffles, their menu features many southern, comfort dishes. You’ll find classic soul food dishes like greens, mac & cheese, grits, livers and more! Of course I had to get the Chicken & Waffles, I mean that is their claim to fame and in the name, so how could I not try it?! The waffles are the thin style, almost like an eggo. This also came with 3 chicken tenders, butter, and syrup. For me personally, I have had better and I felt the chicken was pretty dry and not super crispy on the outside, which was very disappointing. The waffle was fine, it was very buttery but it lacked something for me and when you poured the syrup on it just became super soggy and didn’t hold up. I would have preferred a Belgium style waffle that had some texture and crunch to the exterior. My husband also bravely orders livers and giblets, and while I personally was not about to try them, they definitely had a crunch to them. The only downside was that they were so oily and greasy, just picking one up left so much oil residue on my fingers. To be honest, for this place being such an iconic part of the LA scene, the food was super disappointing. I would have probably preferred to just go to IHOP with how lackluster our meal was. I’d say if you love greasy, mid food then give this a try. Or if you just want to say “hey I’ve been there” then ya go but order something small or share something.
