Oh CaliTaco… how you deceived me! Let me give you some background. On our trip to the LA area, we always always always get tacos multiple times. So for lunch one day the hubby and I were looking for somewhere close and local to grab a few tacos for a quick lunch. Upon Google searching, “CaliTaco” popped up and it had great reviews and the photos looked delicious. We decided to give it a try and it was pretty popular with a lot of people grabbing to-go orders. Okay, so when ordering, I figured I would get 3 tacos since we are in California there are a lot of street tacos and the prices seemed to align with that. I grabbed a shrimp taco ($4.65), a carne asada taco ($4.75) and an al pastor taco ($4.75). My husband grabbed the Angel Burrito ($15.55) which had both steak and shrimp. Again, these prices weren’t anything out of the ordinary for a street size taco and a regular size burrito…like we are in California. It is also worth noting that on the photos I reviewed, there were absolutely no size comparisons or references to how truly large these items were. I am pretty sure when we ordered all of this food the cashier was thinking “oh God, they have no clue” and probably had a good laugh. When my husband walked around the corner with the tray of our food, my jaw DROPPED to the floor with what I saw.. As you can see with the photo on the right of my husband holding his massive, small baby size burrito, that we were in over our heads. The tacos were also massive and so full of meat and toppings, I was shocked with how big they were and how inexpensive they were for what you get! Despite how large everything was, it was absolutely DELICIOUS! The meats were so tender and well seasoned and the tortillas were warm and soft. Everything was super fresh and their cali-sauce was creamy and tangy adding a wonderful dimension of flavor. Safe to say we had enough left over for dinner and lunch the next day. This is your warning… it is so good, but make sure you know what you are getting into before you go and maybe share!
By the way, my husband is 6’2″ and has fairly large hands and couldn’t even get his hands around that massive burrito. It was seriously as big as his forearm and absolutely stuffed to the max!
