Nan Thai

I LOVE thai food, in fact, it is one of my favorite cuisines in the world because of the flavors. I’d like to call myself a Thai food connoisseur with all of the Thai food I have eaten. And before you ask, yes I love a good pad thai because it is a classic, but I love so many other dishes. Nan Thai however is not like your typical Thai restaurant. This is the nicest Thai spot I have ever dined in and to be honest I was pretty shocked at how fancy it was. For me, I’ve always known Thai food to be little mom and pop restaurants, usually in strip malls, that serve delicious, easy, quick meals that are also pretty inexpensive. So to my surprise when I walked in here I was greeted with white tablecloths and a full fine dining experience.

My husband and I shared a few plates and found everything to be tasty, but I’d be lying if I said I preferred this to my cheap Thai spot back home. Nan Thai definitely elevated the classics, and they were delightful, but I feel like they were missing something. Here is what we tried: Shrimp & Chicken Dumplings, Tom Yum Soup, Shrimp Pad Thai, Thai Tea Creme Brulee. The dumplings were our favorite dish and had a ton of fresh flavor. They were chewy on the outside, with a soft inside bursting with so much ginger and garlic. The Tom Yum soup was very clean and vibrant with a strong lemongrass flavor and the calamari, shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly – no chewy seafood here. The shrimp pad Thai was good, but it felt like it was lacking something – the shrimp were cooked beautifully and had a snap to them and the noodles were chewy and soft. Like I said above, if you’re wanting elegant Thai food, then this is absolutely worth checking out; but if you’re just wanting an easy, inexpensive Thai option, then I would hit up your local joint.

Nan Thai definitely does an amazing job elevating Thai food and turning it into a fine dining experience and the food is very tasty. I just felt it was lacking something or maybe I am just not used to Thai food in such an elegant format. Would I go back? Yes, but only if someone else is paying.
