Who doesn’t love pizza? But as all pizza lovers know, not all pizza is created equally and everyone has strong opinions about how pizza should be cooked and what should be on pizza. Me personally? I mean I am not one to turn down a slice, but my preferred pizza style is neapolitan with simple, classic ingredients – I just love that wood-fired crust. Anyways, as long as the pizza tastes good, I really will never say no to a slice.
On a trip to New Jersey, upon landing the first thing I needed was food – it was a long day of travel with no time to grab a bite. I found this pizza shop, Lupo, near where I was visiting and thought let’s give it a try! Upon walking in, your nose is immediately hit with a wonderful bready smell, garlic, tomatoes simmering and all the aromatics! The next thing you notice, is the large counter with so many slices ready for you to pick and choose and chow down on. I loved getting to see all the different pizza toppings they had and they had Detroit Style and New York Style. I had to resist so hard from ordering a bunch of slices and went with the Vodka Margherita and PSP – both Detroit Style. They even heated them up in their pizza oven so I could enjoy them on the spot, fresh and hot. That first bite was like the pizza gods singing to me and was so freaking delicious. The crust was so crispy on the exterior and had a warm, fluffy center. While I loved the pepperoni and spicy marinara, that vodka margherita was just on a different level. The sauce was so creamy and flavorful and it was loaded with melty mozzarella. Seriously, this pizza shop was unreal and you should go there immediately.
I would go back to New Jersey just for this shop…and I think that says a lot because it still is New Jersey where like there isn’t a lot going on….sorry NJ!
