Efe’s Grill

If there is one cuisine I could eat everyday, it would probably be Greek/Mediterranean – which I know is a broad term that encompasses a lot of cultures, but I just love the fresh dishes that comes with these regions. Wandering around New Jersey, we stumbled upon Efe’s Grill and we couldn’t resist. We stopped in for a late lunch, so the place wasn’t too crowded! But this is in the heart of the city, and parking was a bit tough in the area so I would bet this place gets a lot of attention during the day and evening at peak hours.

We tried to not over do it when ordering, but it was so hard because we wanted to try everything on the menu! We ended up grabbing this: Hummus + Pita; Gyro Doner; Kunefe. Everything was truly divine and so flavorful. The hummus was creamy and smooth and everything you want from a hummus. The pita was a unique, thicker pita that was a bit more bread-like with a wonderful crust on the exterior. The gyro Doner was the star of the show with thinly sliced meat, piled high with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and creamy garlic sauce – this is all stuffed in a fluffy pita. And of course you can’t forget dessert – we had to try the Kunefe, which is a melty cheese dish that is layered between crispy phyllo dough and drenched in a sweet syrup. It is sweet, salty, and gooey and so buttery. Don’t forget to grab a Turkish coffee to go with it!
