Brooklyn Bagel

If your first stop in New York is not a bagel or pizza shop, then you are doing it wrong! When I arrived in NYC, I immediately found the closest bagel shop and booked it there for an early morning bagel before work. GPS took me to this gem Brooklyn Bagels and it wasn’t until later that I learned this bagel shop is somewhat of an institution and very popular. This spot has been featured on several blogs, magazines, and tv; it is also known as the best bagels in NYC (I am sure this is controversial because everyone in NYC has their own opinions on both bagels and pizza).

I popped in to this shop bright and early at like 7am and was definitely the only one awake at this early hour on a Friday morning. The choices were endless and they had so many wild cream cheese flavors! It was overwhelming, but in a good way; like a kid in a candy store but for someone who loves bagels and schmear! I was super intrigued by cannoli cream cheese and the bacon scallion cream cheese. In addition to bagels and cream cheese they had a number of breakfast sandwiches and wraps, deli sandwiches and baked goods.

I grabbed two bagels – one for me and one for the hubs (because I am that nice). In the end I went for a plain bagel (but it was rainbow colored so I couldn’t not get it!) and the bacon scallion cream cheese. For the hubby, I grabbed him a poppyseed bagel with their lox scallion spread (this had capers, tomatoes, smoked salmon, and scallions and it was LOADED!). Overall the bagels were phenomenal. They were so chewy and light on the inside with a good bite to them. The bagels were also thick and had the perfect cream cheese ratio (most places skimp and that’s not the life I want to live).

Give them a try if you’re in NYC and Brooklyn specifically! Click here to check out their website.
