Oh Torino, how I love you. A small Italian town just an hour outside of Milan in the North of Italy. It is well known for a few things: Fiats, Espresso, and even hosted the winter Olympics in 2006. Torino is also the capital of the Piedmont region of Italy. While the town is fairly small and walkable, there is still so much to do that you get a bigger city feel, so it is the best of both worlds. It is also home to one of the largest Egyptian artifact collections and the museum is a must go! Make sure to have plenty of time because the Museum is massive and one could easily spend the day there. My other favorite things to do and see in Torino include: a tour of the LaVazza Museum (this is where espresso started); see the breathtaking Mole; eat dinner in the old Fiat Factory; wander around the Olympic grounds; walk around the Valentino Park and grab a drink by the water; explore the city center and check out the Piazza Solferino, Royal Palace of Turin + the Gardens, and Piazza San Carlo; go shopping at the outdoor market Porta Palazzo. You will definitely work up an appetite with all of the exploring and the restaurants below will lead you to delicious dishes! There are a few must-try dishes here so make sure you don’t miss them. Here is what you have to try while in Torino: Bicerin (this is a thick, chocolate, coffee drink – go to Caffe Al Bicerin for the best one); Bonet (a traditional dessert that you can find almost anywhere); Vitello Tonnato (veal with tuna sauce, served cold; trust it isn’t as bad as it sounds); Agnolotti (pillowy, stuffed pastas – my favorite comes from Pastificio Defilippis); and Brasato Al Barolo (beef braised in Barolo Wine for a tender, juicy dish).
