Madrid Eats

Madrid is one of those cities in Spain that I feel gets overshadowed by its more party-vibe sister, Barcelona. I have had the pleasure of visiting both cities multiple times and while Barcelona is stunning and beautiful, as I age, I am more and more drawn to Madrid. The city has so much to offer and the dining scene in Madrid is spectacular. Madrid also has so many districts to discover, with each one offering different things. My favorite districts are: Chueca, Cortes, and Malasana. Some of my favorite things to do in Madrid are: taking a cooking class with a local; having a picnic and walk around Retiro Park; seeing a soccer game at Bernabeu; visiting Plaza Mayor; walking through all the markets for tasty bites; seeing a Flamenco show and taking a food tour in the city center; and grabbing Churros and coffee for an afternoon pick me up! A few important notes to have the best food experience possible. To drink like the locals, order a Tinto de Verano (it is much more refreshing than Sangria and you won’t be immediately identified as a tourist). For eating, tapas is the most common; but tapas is just a style of food so if you’re looking for small plates make sure you ask. There are a lot of spots that have those classic dishes you are craving, but they are full sized portions and you will be shocked when they come to the table. The spots below have been the places that keep us coming back to Madrid with some real show stoppers.
