Rhode Island Eats

Rhode Island is probably not on a lot of people’s list of states to visit. It is small, but it is gorgeous with some incredible seafood. I had the pleasure of living in Rhode Island for about 4 years and I try to go back and visit every few years. The best time to go visit is Spring through Fall. If you’re looking for warmer, sunny days then the late Spring/early Summer are the best times to go because the summer spots are opening up and Newport starts to become hopping. If you are looking for those classic New England Fall vibes then September-October is the best time to target, but note that you will miss out on several of the summer spots. Since the state relies heavily on the summer tourist season, a number of popular restaurants are only open in the summer months; the seafood is also at its peak in these months! Since Rhode Island is so small, there isn’t one city I would recommend but rather an exploration of the entire state. A few of my favorite cities/areas are: Newport (it is pretty expensive to stay here, but it is great for a day trip; walk along the waterfront, take a mansion tour, and grab a lobster roll on the water); Providence (head over to the Brown and RISD campuses for some fun exploring and shopping – especially down Thayer street); Federal Hill (for some classic and delicious Italian food and all the vibes); Matunuck (for the beach vibes and delicious seafood restaurants); South Kingstown/Narragansett (another great waterfront area with cute shops and a super cute downtown to walk around).
